If it works on Meredith Veira, it may work on someone else.

Up up and Away

Today will be remembered as the day when a little boy named Falcon Heene caused the country to hold its breath.  A great big balloon launched into the sky and America worried about the little six year old boy thought to be onboard.  As it turns out, he was home safe, hiding in the attic inside a box, because he thought his dad was mad at him.

Meanwhile, in the Twitter world, one of the trending topics was #falconsonglist.  People were coming up with songs for little Falcon’s iPod as he flew among the clouds (at least while people thought he was).

Here are some of the songs:

In the Air Tonight
99 Red Balloons
Living in a Box
Ain’t No Mountain Enough
I Believe I Can Fly
Hello (Is it me you’re looking for)
Up Where We Belong

Twitter people are funny :)

The other kind of tweet

Here’s why you always wait until the whistle is blown.

Canton (Michigan) Plymouth High learned that the hard way earlier this month.

The school thought it had defeated Westland (Michigan) John Glenn when it blocked a last-second field goal attempt. But when its players ran off the field in celebration, none of the players realized that the ball hadn’t crossed the line of scrimmage and was still in play.

No official had blown the ball dead.

So while Plymouth celebrated, John Glenn’s Tony Wilton alertly picked up the ball and ran 33-yards for the winning score. - from Yahoo.

Worst 1 note actors

Faster Times is listing their 5 worst one-note actors.  On the list:

  • Kristen Stewart
  • Will Ferrell
  • Jennifer Aniston
  • Michael Cera
  • Ben Stiller
  • All I have to say is HOW HOW HOW HOW is Bill Murray not president of this list?  I’m already going to preempt those of you who are going to say Liv Tyler. You know who you are.   (breathlessly… Frodo!)

    My dream family…

We didn’t do family singalongs in the car growing up.  My dream family will though…

And if you liked he song but not the video, here’s another version for you…

(And Kyle… if you say ‘note note note’ again, I will smite you like the hand of God.)

    Dumb quotes of the day

“They are concerned about Democratic races all around the country,” he said. “I see it as what has become an overly politicized process.” – Gov. David Paterson, on the political process we call a campaign.

“Online reviewers are a little like T-Ball parents: To them, everyone’s a winner. Though the Internet is laden with snark and meanness, customer reviews are a bastion of the positive, with the average grade sitting at about 4.3 out of 5 stars, according to Bazaarvoice, a company that provides review software.”  Um yeah…. online people are only gonna review stuff they’re choosing to buy.

    Fun weekend project

These guys built a platform to house an HD cam corder, attached a GPS tracking device and  tied it to a weather balloon and landing parachute.  They got the camera up to over 100,000 feet, where the curvature of the Earth is visible.

I, on the other hand, bought a slow cooker.

    With fans like this…

Outfielder Matt Carson does not have the ball from his first big-league home run – the fan who caught it Monday refused to give it up unless he was paid for it.

The A’s usually trade a signed bat for a milestone baseball, sometimes throwing in a few hats or a shirt, but they will not pay for returned balls.

“I only want money,” the fan told clubhouse personnel before leaving.

“He wanted a lot, too,” said Carson, who like others heard that the demand was $10,000, although that could not be confirmed. “Kind of a bummer. They authenticated the bat I used, though, so I’ll do something with that.

“It would have been nice to have the ball, and I would have been happy to give him a bat and signed it – that’s more than a baseball, anyway. But that’s OK, I have a souvenir, I’m happy.”  – SFGate

What they should have done was get the “fan”’s name and made him famous.  All that guy’s got now is a ball that no one will believe is the real deal and a whole lot of bad karma.

    Comes with Zippy the chimp!!

    Dave Matthews on the media

Best quote I’ve read this week.  (Yes I know it’s only Monday).

We give the podium to a lot of people who shouldn’t have the podium. The message that’s delivered the loudest and in the most entertaining way is the one that we’re going to put on because that’s what we want. We want ratings more than we want to deliver information. That’s just where the culture’s gotten. – Dave Matthews, on CNN
