Earthquake!

with 5 comments

We’ve just had an earthquake here in Southern California.  Out here in Santa Monica, the quake was gentle and rolling and lasted a very long time.  Going by what people have said on the news, our building must have experienced an additional 20 seconds of building sway past the quake itself.

Here’s a just in photo of some of the aftermath…

  1. I can only imagine what other carnage has taken place. The humanity.

  2. It was awful. It was like being jostled for a minute straight.

  3. Hey, my TV fell off of my dresser–this is no laughing matter!

On the other hand, I was at work on the 7th floor and the building swayed for a REALLY long time—it’s the first time in my life that an earthquake has actually freaked me out a bit. One of the women was crying, they all had grabbed their purses and were ready to bolt. The motion actually messed up my inner ear a bit and made me lightheaded and dizzy.

  5. Well… they say animals are keenly aware of the environment. That dogs can actually sense earthquakes before they happen. I checked in on the intrepid pup via webcam worried that he was home freaking out, only to find that he was asleep on the fireplace hearth and just slept through the rumbler. So much for keen awareness.
