Life as I know it… plus commentary

New York state of mind

with 4 comments

The Wall Street Journal reports there may be something to the idea that your personality be be tied (a little) to the state you’re from.

The most extroverted state? North Dakota.
They’re probably so happy to see another live person they just start talking like crazy, not knowing the next time they’ll see someone.

The most agreeable? Again, North Dakota.
If you see one person a week, you certainly don’t want to tick off that one person.  You could be friendless for a month.

The most concientious state? New Mexico.
Got me on this one.  Maybe it’s in the chiles.

The most neurotic? West Virginia.
Here they mean anxious and stressed, not crazy. And being poor makes you anxious.

The most open to new ideas?  DC.
Got me on this one too.  And no chiles are involved.

And to save anyone the trouble… Washingtonians are not very extroverted, semi agreeable, not very neurotic and really open to change.  If that’s not a recipe for being low key and contrary, I don’t know what is.

  1. I hesitate to post in a public forum like this, but I semi-agree with your findings, and without undue stress, I’m open to this post changing my perspective on things.

    (Not being contrary is boring.)
