Life as I know it… plus commentary

Washingtonians weigh in…

Some atheists have erected a sign next to a nativity scene in the NW.  Their beef is that nativity scenes tell them they’re going to hell so they felt compelled to put up this sign.

This sign’s been turned, knocked over and had acid thrown on it.  Personally, I think they’re over reacting.  Nativity scenes are about theology as much as the Jingle Bells song is.

I do up hold their right to expression; I just questionthe effectiveness.  Somethign like this would be way more effective as a conversation starter in, say, July than in the season of one of the holy days of the church.  All this does is bring cheap publicity to their group and harden peoples’ hearts toward atheists.

And I’ve said this before… I think real atheists just go about their business quietly not believing in God.  These people are not a-theistic but rather have adopted a mission and evangelism to sway people away from Christianity.  The founder is an ex-pastor…no issues there, right?  🙂

  1. I am of a similar opinion. When one is an agnostic, generally it is a “chipless” perspective. Not all, but some who subscribe to atheism seem to feel they are obligated to enlighten the rest, and in so doing, commit the very same moral crimes that they accuse the others of.

  2. Apparently we read the same news stories at the same time. I just posted this story on my site, with a little commentary on the sign itself.

    Nice take.
