Lightning 6, People 0
Check this out:
Both the fires and storm hit hardest in San Bernardino County, where a lightning bolt struck and killed a 40-year-old woman Wednesday as she was standing under a tree in a Fontana neighborhood.
Police said residents found her face down on the sidewalk after one bolt killed her and another damaged the sidewalk nearby. Her name has not been released.
“She was hit with a very significant jolt of lightning that left a gaping hole in her neck,” Fontana police Sgt. Jeff Decker said. “It burned down her body and blew out the bottom of her shoes,” Decker said. “Her upper body clothing was blown about 30 feet away from her body.”
Hours earlier another woman, 31-year-old Elena Martinez, died after a wind-blown tree crushed her car as she drove in the San Bernardino Mountains during a thunderstorm, said Big Bear Lake fire spokeswoman Michelle Caldwell.
Four young men were burned when a bolt of lightning hit a chain-link fence and jumped to a large rock where they were sitting in San Bernardino, city fire officials said. They had only minor burns on their backs.
As the storm passed through San Diego County another man was injured when he was hit by lightning as he worked outside a house in San Marcos. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
It’s like lightning was seeking people yesterday and zapped a bunch of 909ers. Now if you believe the X Files, the survivors should have some control over lightning and electricity now… gaining in strength the more evil their intent. I’d stay away from the four young men for a while. I wouldn’t mind being struck by lightning if I knew I could gain power over it. I’d flip on the lights from my bed, make jukeboxes play what I want and call strikes down on cars that cut me off on the freeway. I tell you though, if being hit by lightning blows your clothes off you, I’m wearing two pairs of boxers today.
