Life as I know it… plus commentary

Pete Hoekstra is a meme…

with 4 comments

I love this.  This is soooo my sense of humor.

First you have to know the original:  Iranian twitter activity similar to what we did in House last year when Republicans were shut down in the House,” Hoekstra tweeted from his BlackBerry today.

Here’s what they’re doing over at the petehisameme blog:

It all started with a simple, foolish tweet. On June 17th, GOP Congressman Pete Hoekstra compared the life and death struggle of Iranians trying to get their message out via Twitter to the Republican Party’s tussle with Democrats. (See quote above.) The Twitterati began satirizing Hoekstra’s tweet (see lulz below).

And that’s how the Hoekstra meme was born.

And so what people have done in parody is to suggest a normal situation and suggest that it now enables them to understand a barely correlated second situation.  Except they’ve added workplace type posters (like the Hang In There poster) along with the parodies.  Good stuff!

Here’s one example.

  1. You really need to change party registration-and Hoekstra needs to shut up. 🙂

  2. You only know my social rants. If we talked fiscal… you’d understand that I’m a true conservative.

As for Hoekstra, I’d make fun of anyone who said this. If you’re in public office, you have to be careful about anything you put out there.

  3. But how far back in the archives would we have to go to find a Democrat as the butt of an Arnoldcam joke? You up for that piece of homework, Mr. Fiscal Conservative?

  4. It’s true. When I post stuff, I rarely look at the part of who did it.. like in this case, had no idea Hoekstra was a Republican until it was pointed out.

The Dems are mostly keeping quiet and on the Republican side, you have people like Hoekstra saying things that somehow catch fire but also people like DePass making gorilla ancestor jokes, or the staff of Republican senators who are emailing presidential portraits with Obama represented as cartoonish eyes and a solid black background. I don’t know about you, but I comment on what’s out there.
